Announcing New Funding Opportunities for Feline Health Research

Morris Animal Foundation is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of animals through groundbreaking research. By bridging science and resources, the foundation aims to make a significant impact on animal health. In line with this mission, Morris Animal Foundation has announced a new funding opportunity specifically focused on improving the health and welfare of domestic cats, including both community and pet cats.

Request for Proposals: Advancing Feline Health

Researchers are invited to submit proposals that address critical issues affecting the health of domestic cats (Felis catus). The foundation is particularly interested in projects that have the potential to improve overall feline welfare. Please note that this call does not extend to projects involving other feline species.

The foundation offers several funding awards to support different stages of a researcher’s career:

1. Established Investigator Award

This award is designed for researchers with a strong track record of expertise, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. The Established Investigator Award provides support for up to 36 months, with no fixed budget cap, though the foundation anticipates the average award will be approximately $100,000. Proposals should aim for significant scientific merit and long-term impact.

2. First Award

Geared toward early career researchers, the First Award helps investigators establish themselves in the field of feline health research. Applicants must have completed a PhD, DVSc, DVM, or equivalent degree and hold a permanent position at a university, accredited zoo, or conservation organization. The maximum funding available is $120,000 for up to 24 months. This award is an ideal opportunity for those who are ready to take on their first independent research project.

3. Pilot Study Award

For those seeking support for smaller, proof-of-concept studies, the Pilot Study Award offers up to $20,000 in funding for projects lasting up to 12 months. These awards are perfect for researchers looking to test new ideas that could lead to larger-scale studies in the future.
